Recent Project - Whole House

Some clients are blessed with both taste and vision. I was lucky enough to be found by this client who was in a very early stage in their construction. They needed assistance with the entire lighting plan including outdoor and landscape lighting. We lad out, specified, sold, and supervised the installation of every lighting fixture in this 2.5 year project.

Recent Project - Office Space

This client has a forward thinking company that wanted a lighting plan that matched their vision. This installation of recessed LED Tape and Channels gave them an edgy and functional light source.

Legrand Adorne Popout Outlet

This is simply the coolest electrical outlet on the market. We have them all over the store and love them. A simple push makes them pop out or hides them when not in use. Each contains 3 outlets. One side is left blank so you can put two next to each other for 6 total outlets. We have white and magnesium (grey) and their matching plates in stock.  We also offer their complete line of switches and dimmers and have a good selection in stock now.

Philippe Starck's Miss K Table Lamp by Flos

Philippe Starck is our favorite architect and designer. His designs for Flos played a big part in why we are carrying their line of fixtures. When you see this lamp in person, you see that the light source "floats" in the shade almost like a ghost. Super cool!

Recent Project - Whole House

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Jeff Shelton Architect (link) and Dan Upton Construction (link) on two new home projects. This contemporary house offered the opportunity to employ unique lighting solutions and lots of new products in subtle ways. We got involved as the house was being framed, so there were a few interesting design elements that could not be employed because the lighting design started later in the project. We recommend getting a lighting plan done as soon as you get a building permit. More pics on our new PORTFOLIO Page (link)!

We have to admit we love Italian lighting companies. Luceplan is a great example of why. Their designs are chic, clever, and sophisticated.

Recent Project - Kitchen Remodel

We loved working with this client. She had great taste and was very open to new ideas and products. The WAC Silo Multi Recessed allowed tremendous control and 10 heads to direct as needed with the ability to zoom from a spot to a flood without changing reflectors or heads. The three Melange Disc Pendants by Kelly Wearstler for Visual Comfort added warmth and punctuation with their alabaster discs.

The Death of Santa Barbara Retail? Thoughts on our State Street Pop-Up…

Our 2-month Pop-Up Store on State Street ended with a busy final week. One client purchased 67 Asian vases, and we sold out of about half our stock but mostly at 50% to 70% off. It was a valuable learning experience. Is retail dying on State Street? You read about businesses closing almost every week, and the number of vacancies is alarming. Rents are similar to some neighborhoods in Manhattan where the entire population of Santa Barbara could fit in a 4.5-block radius. People shop in NYC, but we don’t shop on State Street. You rarely see shopping bags. When you do, they are from Marshalls. Luckily, I found an affordable space in San Roque 3 years ago for my main location and that lighting makes me a destination. I’ve been in business for 7 years and designed over 50 homes, but most of the shoppers at the pop-up store had never heard of me. It’s tough being a small business owner anywhere, but Santa Barbara has a unique set of circumstances that is making it close to impossible to succeed. It was easier on Newbury Street in Boston. If there were a commitment by the city, landlords, and consumers, we could have a thriving retail environment in Santa Barbara. Otherwise, the slow death will continue.

Italians design the best lighting fixtures. There is FLOS, Artemide, Terzani, Luceplan, Foscarini, Mazzega, Contardi, Masiero, Oluce, and so many more. We just started carrying Prandina and want to introduce you to this manufacturer of clean lines, stylish lighting fixtures.
